A sharp interface immersed boundary method for compressible viscous flows
An immersed boundary method for computing viscous, subsonic compressible flows with complex shaped stationary immersed boundaries is presented. The method employs a ghost-cell technique for imposing the boundary conditions on the immersed boundaries. The current approach leads to a sharp representation of the immersed boundaries, a property that is especially useful for flow simulations at high...
متن کاملA sharp interface method for incompressible two-phase flows
We present a sharp interface method for computing incompressible immiscible two-phase flows. It couples the Level-Set and Volume-of-Fluid techniques and retains their advantages while overcoming their weaknesses. It is stable and robust even for large density and viscosity ratios on the order of 1000 to 1. The numerical method is an extension of the second-order method presented by Sussman (200...
متن کاملA High Order Sharp-Interface Method with Local Time Stepping for Compressible Multiphase Flows
In this paper, a new sharp-interface approach to simulate compressible multiphase flows is proposed. The new scheme consists of a high order WENO finite volume scheme for solving the Euler equations coupled with a high order pathconservative discontinuous Galerkin finite element scheme to evolve an indicator function that tracks the material interface. At the interface our method applies ghost ...
متن کاملA computational method for sharp interface advection
We devise a numerical method for passive advection of a surface, such as the interface between two incompressible fluids, across a computational mesh. The method is called isoAdvector, and is developed for general meshes consisting of arbitrary polyhedral cells. The algorithm is based on the volume of fluid (VOF) idea of calculating the volume of one of the fluids transported across the mesh fa...
متن کاملThe Sharp-interface Approach for Fluids with Phase Change: Riemann Problems and Ghost Fluid Techniques
Systems of mixed hyperbolic-elliptic conservation laws can serve as models for the evolution of a liquid-vapor fluid with possible sharp dynamical phase changes. We focus on the equations of ideal hydrodynamics in the isothermal case and introduce a thermodynamically consistent solution of the Riemann problem in one space dimension. This result is the basis for an algorithm of ghost fluid type ...
